Implementation science for ambulatory care safety: a novel method to develop context-sensitive interventions to reduce quality gaps in monitoring high-risk patients.

    Delayed cancer diagnosis in the ambulatory setting may result from both cognitive and systems level breakdowns. Using industrial and human factors methods as well as implementation theory, this study identified potential solutions for five high-risk situations related to potentially delayed diagnosis of cancer across multiple specialty clinics resulting from insufficient patient monitoring.
